TRAFALGAR 21st OCTOBER 1805

The Battle Of TRAFALGAR was a Fleet Action between the ROYAL NAVY and Combined Fleet of FRANCE and SPAIN, during the War of the third Coalition. It was NAPOLEON's plan to invade Britain, with the French and Spanish Fleets taking control of the ENGLISH CHANNEL and provide the French Army a safe passage to England.

The combined fleet of France and Spain outnumbered the Royal Navy with 33 Ships of the line, and 5 Frigates. To the Royal Navy 27 Ships Of The Line and 4 Frigates. But it was a total defeat for France and Spain. The casualties show huge losses with 4,395 Killed, 2,541 Wounded and 7,000 to 8,000 captured, with 17 Ships Of The Line Captured and 1 Ship destroyed.

The Royal Navy lost 458 Killed and 1,208 wounded. And Lord Nelson was killed in action while leading the Fleet Action on HMS VICTORY.
